September to November is ideal, with golden terraces and clear air, and March to April brings buckwheat and peach blossoms. Summers are wet, with landslide risk.
Three to four days are needed for the Ha Giang Loop. Add one more day for Hoang Su Phi or Na Hang.
It is a six to seven hour drive from Hanoi by road, and sleeper buses or private cars are the usual options. Plan an early start.
