Pays de la Loire tour packages follow the western stretch of the Loire as it nears the Atlantic. Nantes is a creative city that mixes the castle of the Dukes of Brittany with a giant mechanical elephant, while Angers is dominated by a black-and-white fortress holding a great medieval tapestry. Saumur is known for its riverside château, cavalry school and sparkling wines, and Le Mans hosts the famous 24-hour motor race. May to September is the most pleasant, with long days for river rides and gardens. The Le Mans 24 Hours takes place in June, when rooms fill up.

Fly to Paris and take a TGV to Angers or Nantes in about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Nantes also has its own airport with European flights.
