Saxony tour packages lead to eastern Germany’s cultural heartland, where baroque palaces, music and mountains sit close together. Dresden was rebuilt from wartime ruins and its Frauenkirche, Zwinger and Semper Opera again glow along the Elbe. Leipzig is the city of Bach and of the 1989 peaceful revolution, and the sandstone pinnacles of Saxon Switzerland offer superb hiking. Porcelain-making Meissen and the Upper Lusatian town of Görlitz round out the state. Trains connect all major sights, and prices are lower than in southern Germany.
