County Leitrim tourism highlights the least populated and one of the most peaceful counties in Ireland. It is a land of small lakes, drumlin hills, waterways and traditional music, with the River Shannon winding past the county town of Carrick-on-Shannon, a popular boating hub. In the north, Glencar Waterfall drops into a wooded glen immortalised in the poetry of W. B. Yeats. Leitrim has a short Atlantic coastline too. It rewards slow travel, angling, canoeing and cycling rather than a checklist of sights, and is about two and a half hours from Dublin.
