County Meath tour packages explore the Boyne Valley, the cradle of ancient Ireland. Newgrange, a 5,000-year-old passage tomb older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hill of Tara was the seat of the High Kings, Trim Castle is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland and Slane Castle stages big rock concerts. Meath’s green farmland and historic villages are only 40 minutes from Dublin, so many travellers cover the highlights on a long day trip or an overnight stay.

May to September has the best weather, though Newgrange is open year-round. The winter solstice sunrise inside the tomb is a rare experience.
One long day covers Newgrange, Tara and Trim, while two days allow a slower pace. Newgrange tours must be booked in advance.
Newgrange is about 50 minutes by road from Dublin. Day tours from the capital are common, and car hire gives more freedom.
