Carrowmore tour packages visit the largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland. More than 30 stone circles, dolmens and passage tombs, some over 5,500 years old and older than Newgrange, lie across fields at the foot of Knocknarea. A small visitor centre offers guided tours that explain how the monuments were used. Knocknarea hill, topped by Queen Maeve’s Cairn, rises behind. Visiting at sunset is especially memorable.
