Vila Real District tour packages enter the heart of the Douro wine region, a UNESCO landscape of terraced vineyards that climb steep valley walls. Pinhão is the valley’s most beautiful railway station and a hub for river cruises and wine estates. Vila Real town has a baroque palace with famous gardens, and Chaves is a hot-spring town with a Roman bridge. Harvest in September and October is magical. Two to three days suit the district. Spring brings green terraces and autumn gives golden vines.
