Yaroslavl Oblast tour packages follow the upper Volga through some of the most atmospheric towns of the Golden Ring. Yaroslavl, a UNESCO-listed city, is famed for its frescoed churches and riverside embankment. Rostov Veliky has a lakeside kremlin with bell towers that ring out across the water, Uglich keeps the memory of the tragic Tsarevich Dmitry, and Pereslavl-Zalessky and Myshkin offer lakes, museums and small-town quirks. The pace is slow, the food homely and the scenery tranquil.

June to September is ideal for Volga cruises and walks, and the bell concerts at Rostov are lovely in summer. Winter is quiet, snowy and good for photographers.
Two to three days cover Yaroslavl and Rostov Veliky. Add another day or two for Uglich and Pereslavl-Zalessky.
Travellers from India usually fly to Moscow, direct or via a Gulf hub, and continue by road or train in about two to four hours from Moscow; river cruises on the Volga also call at several towns. A Russian visa must be arranged before departure.
