Toledo has been called a museum city, Cuenca is famed for its hanging houses over a gorge, and the windmills of Consuegra stand on a ridge as if from the novel. The region produces Manchego cheese, saffron and good wines. Most travellers visit Toledo as a day trip, but two days allow time for Cuenca. Spring is the most pleasant season.

April to June and September to October are mild and pleasant. July and August are very hot, and winters can be cold.
One day covers Toledo from Madrid, while two to three days allow Cuenca and Consuegra as well.
Fly to Madrid, then take a 30-minute high-speed train to Toledo or about an hour to Cuenca. Consuegra is easiest by road.
