Nidwalden tourism is a pocket-sized canton on the south shore of Lake Lucerne, with lakeside villages and viewpoints reached by old cable cars and ferries. It is quiet and green, and its mountain, the Stanserhorn, offers a panorama of 10 Swiss lakes.The capital Stans has a tidy square and a unique open-top CabriO cable car, while Bürgenstock is a clifftop resort high above the lake with a famous panoramic lift. The canton is less visited by tour groups and rewards a calm stop. It is easy to reach from Lucerne by boat or train in half an hour. Plan a day trip between April and October.

April to October is best for the cable cars and lake views. Winter is quiet, though the resort at Bürgenstock stays open.
A day trip from Lucerne covers Stans and Bürgenstock. Stay a night if you want to enjoy the resort or boat rides at leisure.
Trains take about 15 to 20 minutes from Lucerne to Stans, and lake boats stop at Bürgenstock and Stansstad. Indian travellers usually fly to Zürich first.
