Thurgau tourism is a restful corner along the southern shore of Lake Constance, with apple orchards, vineyards and farm shops. It is the country’s fruit canton, and in spring the blossom is spectacular, while autumn brings cider and harvest markets.Along the lake, villages such as Gottlieben and Romanshorn have promenades and ferries to Germany and Austria, and Arenenberg Castle was the home of Napoleon III’s family. Cycling paths follow the shore, and the Rhine near Diessenhofen is quiet and scenic. The canton is ideal for a slow day, between April and October.

April to October is best, with orchard blossom in April and cider season in autumn. Lake Constance is warm enough for swimming in July and August.
A day is enough to follow the lake, visit Arenenberg and take a ferry. Stay one night for a relaxed cycle trip.
Trains reach Romanshorn in about 1 hour 15 minutes from Zürich, and Frauenfeld in around 40 minutes. Boats cross to Friedrichshafen in Germany.
