Vaud tourism is centred on the north shore of Lake Geneva, where terraced vineyards slope to the water and the Alps rise across the lake. The “Swiss Riviera” around Montreux and Vevey is mild enough for palms, and the UNESCO-listed Lavaux wine region is a highlight for walkers.Lausanne, the Olympic capital, mixes a Gothic cathedral with a lively waterfront, and Chillon Castle stands on the lake near Montreux. In the mountains, Les Diablerets and its high glacier offer skiing and views. The region is also known for Chaplin’s World and the Jazz Festival. April to October is lovely, and two to three nights fit most trips.
