Zug tourism is a quiet, prosperous corner of central Switzerland, where a medieval town sits by a lake with the Alps in the distance. The compact old town, Zytturm clock tower and lakeside promenade make it a pleasant day trip from Zürich or Lucerne, only 25 minutes away by train.Cream cakes called Zuger Kirschtorte, made with cherry brandy, are the local treat. The Zugerberg hill offers views and walking, while nearby Cham has a castle and a historic mill by the water. The canton is small and low-key, with a relaxed pace. A half-day visit is sufficient, ideally between April and October.
