Mato Grosso tour packages lead to the wildlife heartland of Brazil. The northern Pantanal, reached along the dirt Transpantaneira highway, is the best place in the world to look for jaguars, while the highland Chapada dos Guimarães offers red cliffs and waterfalls. The capital Cuiabá is the usual arrival point, known for its fish dishes and heat. Mato Grosso is also a gateway to the southern edge of the Amazon. The dry season from June to October gives the best wildlife viewing.

June to October is the dry season and the best time for Pantanal wildlife, with jaguar sightings most likely from July to September. Roads are muddy and animals more scattered from December to March.
Four to five days cover Cuiabá and a Pantanal lodge stay. Seven days let you add Chapada dos Guimarães and Nobres.
Fly to São Paulo or Rio via a Gulf or European hub and take a domestic flight to Cuiabá, which takes around two and a half hours. Pantanal lodges are a further road transfer of three to five hours.
