April to September is dry and cool, ideal for walking in the colonial towns. Summer from December to February is warm and rainy.

Fly to São Paulo or Rio via a Gulf or European hub, then take a one-hour domestic flight to Belo Horizonte. Ouro Preto is about two hours by road from Belo Horizonte.
