June to November is the drier period, with the best beach conditions at Alter do Chão from August to December. January to May brings heavy rain and high rivers.
Three days cover Belém. Add three to four days for Alter do Chão or Marajó Island.
Fly to São Paulo or Rio via a Gulf or European hub, then take a domestic flight to Belém, which is about three hours. Alter do Chão needs a further flight to Santarém.
