Guainía tour packages reach one of Colombia’s most remote and unusual regions, a flat Amazonian landscape pierced by the granite domes of the Cerros de Mavecure. Inírida, the capital, sits where the Inírida, Guaviare and Atabapo rivers meet, with unusual pink flower fields known as the Flor de Inírida. Boat trips, indigenous visits and hill climbs are the main activities. Access is by plane and facilities are basic, so this is for adventurous travellers only.

The drier months from December to March are easier for boat and trekking; the wet season brings high water.
Three to four days are needed to reach the hills and enjoy a guided stay, as access is slow.
Flights run from Bogotá to Inírida, and a boat journey of about an hour then reaches the hills.
