Barichara is a whitewashed stone town with a quiet, timeless feel, San Gil offers rafting, paragliding and caving, and Chicamocha Canyon is a huge gorge with a cable car. Guane is a tiny fossil-rich village on the Camino Real walking trail, and Bucaramanga is the lively capital. Plan four days, and visit between December and March.

Fly to Bucaramanga from Bogotá and drive about two and a half hours to Barichara. San Gil is on the route and is also reachable by road from Bogotá.
