Guanajuato city has underground streets, pastel houses and the Alley of the Kiss, while San Miguel de Allende is celebrated for its pink Gothic church, galleries and rooftop terraces. Dolores Hidalgo is the cradle of Mexican independence, and silver-mining villages such as Mineral de Pozos feel frozen in time. Four to five days work well, and the cooler months are best.
