Hidalgo tour packages are a pleasant surprise just north of Mexico City, with forested hills, mining towns and rock formations. Real del Monte has Cornish-style miners’ cottages and pasties, Huasca de Ocampo offers the basalt prisms of Santa María Regla, and Tula de Allende features giant stone warrior statues. Pachuca, the capital, is known for its football heritage. Two to three days are enough, and the cooler months bring clearer skies.
