Rhode Island tour packages pack a lot into the smallest US state. Newport is famous for the Gilded Age mansions along Bellevue Avenue, a scenic Cliff Walk and a sailing tradition, while Providence, the capital, has a college-town charm, a riverfront with gondola rides and a lively food scene. Beaches, lighthouses and seafood shacks line the coast. The state is easy to reach from Boston, about an hour away, and from New York in about three hours. Summer is the main season, with autumn lovely and quieter. Winters are cold and some seaside businesses close.
