April to May and September to October are ideal for the parks. Summer is hot, and winter suits skiing around Salt Lake City and Park City.
Seven to ten days allow Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches and Canyonlands with Salt Lake City. A shorter trip can focus on Zion and Bryce.
Fly to Salt Lake City via a US hub, or to Las Vegas, which is about 2.5 hours from Zion by road. Many Utah itineraries start in Las Vegas.
