Hawke’s Bay tour packages are about wine, Art Deco architecture and sunny coastal living. After an earthquake destroyed Napier in 1931, the city was rebuilt in striking Art Deco style, and it now hosts a popular festival each February. The surrounding vineyards of Hastings and Havelock North make reds and Chardonnay, and fruit orchards line the plains. Walks to Cape Kidnappers reveal a huge gannet colony. Allow two or three days, and visit from November to April for sunshine and the harvest.
