Marlborough tour packages take in the country’s biggest wine region and the maze of waterways known as the Marlborough Sounds. Around Blenheim, vineyards produce the world-famous Sauvignon Blanc, with cycling routes between cellar doors. Picton, at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, is the ferry port to the North Island and the gateway to cruises, dolphin tours and the Queen Charlotte Track. Winters are mild and summers sunny. A stay of two or three days suits most visitors, and the harvest in March and April is especially atmospheric.

December to April is warm and sunny, with the harvest from March. The Sounds are also pleasant in spring and autumn.

The ferry from Wellington to Picton takes about three and a half hours. Blenheim also has direct flights from Wellington and Auckland.
