Kirinyaga County tour packages explore the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, whose own Kikuyu name, Kirinyaga, means ‘mountain of brightness’. Neat tea and coffee farms, rice paddies and banana groves stretch beneath the peak. The Kamweti route is a quieter trekking alternative to the busier trails, and the Tana River near Sagana has white-water rafting and kayaking.Kerugoya and Kutus are the county’s market towns, and farm visits introduce the dairy, tea and rice economy. It is a green, friendly, uncrowded area.

January to March and July to September are driest for hiking and rafting. April to May and October to November are the wettest months.
One or two days cover Sagana rafting and a farm visit. Allow three or four days if you plan to trek on Mount Kenya.
Kerugoya is about two and a half hours by road from Nairobi. The Sagana river put-in is a little closer, on the Nairobi to Nyeri route.
