August to September is the spring flower season in Namaqualand, while May to September suits desert game viewing in Kgalagadi. Summer is extremely hot in the interior.
Allow at least six days for a remote circuit of Augrabies and Kgalagadi. Two or three days are enough for Kimberley and the Big Hole.
Fly into Johannesburg or Cape Town and take a domestic flight to Kimberley or Upington, or drive. Distances are long, so most visitors join an organised tour.
