Ghor tourism is almost entirely about the Minaret of Jam, a 12th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site that rises in a remote river gorge. Ghor is among the most mountainous and least developed provinces in Afghanistan, with Chaghcharan as its capital on the upper Hari Rud. It was the heartland of the Ghurid dynasty, whose rulers conquered northern India, including Delhi, in the 12th century. Journeys are long and difficult, and snow can close roads from November to April. Summer is the only realistic season. Because of the security situation, India’s Ministry of External Affairs and many other governments advise against visiting Ghor for now.
