Sistan and Baluchestan lies in Iran’s far south-east, beside Pakistan and Afghanistan, and holds some of its most unusual heritage. The Bronze Age Shahr-e Sukhteh, or Burnt City, is a UNESCO site, and the Makran coast around Chabahar has beaches, mud volcanoes and a strong Baluch culture.Kuh-e Khwaja is another UNESCO site rising from the Hamun wetlands. However, security conditions in parts of this province are difficult, and governments including India advise against travel to border areas, so only visit with a local operator after checking current advice.
