Yamagata tour packages are for travellers who love tradition and mountain scenery. At Ginzan Onsen, wooden ryokan inns line a snowy river, creating one of Japan’s most photographed winter scenes. Yamadera is a cliffside temple reached by climbing around 1,000 steps for broad valley views. The Zao ski area is famous for ‘snow monsters’, trees coated thickly in ice, and the prefecture also produces cherries, soba noodles and Yonezawa beef. Visit between December and March for snow and in autumn for colour.
